““I aim to write songs that are going to do something for people. In that they’ll listen to them and come away with something that’ll hit them in the heart, give them something serious to consider… honest themes close to the hearts of people’s day to day lives, the hardships, and acknowledging the wrongs that I see in this modern world, all the while striving to offer that hope and optimism.”

ABOUT MICK MCHUGH

Mick McHugh is an Irish/Australian singer-songwriter, musician and founder of the hugely successful Irish band ‘The Gathering’. A hard working gigging musician, McHugh took no short cuts on his career to becoming a professional musician. Mick is known for creating an engaging and inclusive atmosphere with audiences at his live performances.

Leaning on the rich musical tapestry of his birthplace, the Irish singer-songwriter taught himself to play guitar at age 22, leaving his Engineering career behind. He has honed his skills every step of the way playing thousands of shows - from the local pub to Byron Bluesfest to The Sydney Opera House, national and international touring, supports for iconic acts Amy Shark, Ralph McTell (Streets of London), songwriting with Shane Howard (Goanna Band) and a slew of studio and live releases along the way.

In his latest studio release, the Dubliner has recorded a collection of popular Celtic songs and instrumentals for ABC Kids. The album was recorded between McHugh’s newly found home studio in Byron Bay and producer Damien Leith’s studio.

Says McHugh of the album “I’m very proud to release these songs as Ireland and Australia have a strong shared history. Australia has been my home with my Australian wife and our two kids since 2005 - I wanted to create an album that honoured traditional Celtic songs with a contemporary lift to reach old and new audiences, and both the young and young at heart. It’s predominantly an upbeat feel good album of classic Irish and Scottish sing-a-longs, toe-tapping instrumentals and of course, Danny Boy”.
